Standard Tours
We differentiate between “standard tours” and “special tours”.
Standard tours of the Mining Museum Schauinsland take place from Easter and from May 1st to the beginning of November. A visit to the Mining Museum is only possible with a guided tour. Our standard guided tours always take place at scheduled times.
Standard tours are available in 3 different lengths:
- 45-min tour: 7 € per person, children 4 to 12 years 5 €
- 1.5-hr tour: 15 € per person
- 2.5-hr tour: 22 € per person
We recommend that groups of 15 persons or more book in advance.
Standard opening times:
Standard tours of the Mining Museum Schauinsland take place from Easter and from May 1st to the beginning of November.
Our 45 min-tours run hourly, from Easter + from 1 May until the beginning of November, every Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and on public holidays from 11:30 to 15:30. During July and August they run daily.
Our 1.5-hr and 2.5-hr tours run every Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and on public holidays during the entire season from Easter + from 1 May until the beginning of November (including high season), always at 11:00 and 14:00.

Our mine tours are independent of weather conditions. In the underground mine, the temperature remains constant at +10 °C all year round, with high humidity.
Each group is accompanied by a tour guide who will be happy to assist you and also bring you back should you want to return early at any point.
A unique feature of the Mining Museum is the variety of experiences you get on the different length tours as well as their proximity to the mine entrance, avoiding the need for a long journey through an access tunnel.
As with every guided tour, we recommend that you arrive at Schauinsland Mining Museum 15 minutes before the start of the tour. This is a good way to avoid delays.
Reservations for standard tours are only necessary for groups of 15 persons or more, see special tours. In general, a special tour is the better option for groups of 15 persons or more. The “standard tour times at 11:00 and 14:00” should be avoided. A customer cancellation with a refund is possible up to 7 days before the appointed tour.
Not every tour is suitable for everyone – please check the information in the tour descriptions and under requirements!
There are no special requirements for the 45-minute tour. Street clothing and normal footwear are sufficient. We recommend that you bring a warm jacket.
The longer 1.5-hr and 2.5-hr tours, however, require warm clothing and sturdy, more substantial footwear, preferably hiking shoes. Clothing and footwear may get dirty!
Minimum age for 1.5-hr and 2.5-hr tours
The longer 1.5-hr and 2.5-hr tours include climbs and descends using ladders. These are solid, sloping ladders, measuring 2 to 6 m. We therefore recommended a minimum age of 12 years, or, in exceptional cases and with the required physical fitness, a minimum age of at least 10 years.
Joining the 2.5-hr tour just once is an experience that will stay with you forever. 48 m of ladder descents and ascents over two levels and the three different mine layers during the 2.5-hour tour are an unforgettable adventure. Many visitors come from far and wide to experience these tours…
